Who Studies tsunamis
Many people are often mistaken that Tsunamis are mainly caused by earthquakes, because of this, many scientists that study earthquakes, like Geologists and Seismologists, help with the study of Tsunamis. Scientists that mainly study Tsunamis are hydrologists, and oceanographers. And they also work on how to predict them. Predicting a tsunami cannot always be precise, but what scientists do know, is that a Tsunami is most likely to occur after an earthquake. There is a resource helpful to predicting a Tsunami in the middle of the Pacific Ocean based in Honolulu, Hawaii, called The Pacific Seismic Warning System (PTWC).
It measures the magnitude of earthquakes and determines if there could be a possible Tsunami, even if they are 1 cm! Scientists at the PTWC receive messages from the satellite about seismic activity, and will look deeper into the problem. And if there actually a Tsunami headed for the coast, staff at the PTWC will notify the public and law enforcement and will perform any necessary procedures. At such short notice, it is hard to evacuate an entire city, so
